Our traditional pedigree farm stock consists of Angora goats, Wensleydale, Shetland and Dorset sheep plus Jersey and Angus cows. Prospect Farm is also home to ducks and geese which apart from producing some of the best eggs in Cornwall, the geese are an extremely effective protection from intruders.

During the early 1980's we visited an agricultural show in Surrey and were really taken with Angora Goats and decided then that one day we would have our own herd on our own farm. Angora's originaly come from northern Turkey and produce Mohair not Angora wool which actually comes from the Angora Rabbit. At the moment, on Prospect Farm we have over 70 goats, some of which are the rarer coloured ones.

Now that we have our own traditional farm in Cornwall, we not only have one of the best pedigree Angora goat herds but also a growing flock of Wensleydale sheep. The wool from the Wensleydale's is similarr to mohair and is widely regarded as the finest lustre wool to be found anywhere in the world. This rare breed is one of the biggest and heaviest sheep in the UK and our pure breeding stock is helping to keep this lovely animal alive and viable.

We also have a small flock of Shetland sheep that as their name implies, originate from the Shetland Isles. Shetland's are also a breed that has, over the years become quite rare. As a breed, they are as small as the Wensleydales are large.

The goats are shorn twice a year with the first two clips and sometimes the third producing "Kid Mohair" which is a fine yarn ideal for delicate knitwear. The third, fourth and fifth clips from the young adult goats produce a heavier yarn suitable for socks and heavier knitwear ideal for winter mohair jumpers and cardigans.

After the fifth clip, the now fully adult Angora goat produces a coarser yarn ideally suited for mohair jackets, trousers, coats and rugs or throws.

Our location is on high ground looking across beautiful views to St. Ives, St. Michael's Mt and Goonhilly Downs. Visitors are welcome but by appointment only, please phone or Email to make arrangements before calling in as we are a working farm.
